Ravi and Mini live near the banks of Kurumali river in Varandarapilly, Thrissur district. It is 30km downstream of Chimmuny dam, one of the largest water reservoirs in the state. An hour before the dam opened its flood gate they were asked to evacuate to higher plains and they packed only their bare essentials to run for their life. When they came back they found that the house has been completely razed to the ground by the floods

There are now over 60,000 houses partially damaged or damaged beyond repair in Kerala. Floods disproportionately affect the poor, who live in low- lying areas susceptible to such disasters. Habitat for Humanity India is leading the charge in responding to this calamity. Through its wide network of partners and donors, it has assisted these families by supplying relief and shelter and giving those affected another shot at rebuilding their lives. You can help them in rehabilitation.
